Hi. My name is Sayaka Yamada. I’m a Japanese mother of three boys living in Rotorua, New Zealand.

I’ve always wanted to be a translator, because I personally enjoy a lot of foreign materials. I’ve recently been interested in translating children’s books. As I read them to my kids, I found they were including so many beautiful expressions and found myself enjoying thinking of the perfect Japanese words or expressions for them. I also like to translate poems with the same reason. It is always challenging, but what's more, it is rewarding. I’d been translating companies websites and some business documents mostly voluntarily. I still enjoyed those works since I could’ve felt that my work helped somebody’s understanding, moreover it could be a great part of sharing and exchanging cultures. My major was English Linguistics in the university and I love reading, which helps a lot in the translating career.
