James Ward (author)

Pleased to meet you. Don't let my author picture put you off.

James ward

I am the author of sixteen books, mainly novels, but also non-fiction books on philosophy (I have two higher degrees in Philosophy including a PhD from Sussex University), and also two books of poetry. Born in 1961 in Middlesbrough in the north of England, I am a secondary school teacher by profession. I teach English and Religious Studies to 11-18 year-olds in an all-girls grammar school in Kent. I have been married to the same lovely lady for 33 years. We have two grown up sons and a dog called Arthur Perrins.

I am particularly interested in finding translators for my series of British spy thrillers, "Tales of MI7", since I believe the books that comprise it are the most commercially viable of all my endeavours (although I would welcome translators for any of my works). I am afraid I am not at all fluent in any other languages. At various times in my life, I have learned French, Spanish and German for various reasons, but I have quickly forgotten nearly everything I've learned. I have not travelled abroad as much as I ought to have done.

I am a good listener, and a liberal by disposition. I run my school Amnesty International club, and support a host of charities including Oxfam and Actionaid. On Sunday mornings, I am a sidesman at my local church. I dislike all forms of fundamentalism. I believe I have a good sense of humour. For me, the most important quality a person can have is the ability to laugh at him/ herself (but not all the time, obviously).

Apologies if this biography drones on a bit. I'll stop here.
