The Junglies at the beach by Francois Keyser

Wishes can come true.....

The junglies at the beach

In the 11th book of "The Junglies" series, the Junglies have arrived at the beach safely after their scary train ride in "The Junglies take a train ride".

The friends leave Jungle Man to try and fix the train for their return journey on his own while they rush off to enjoy themselves on the beach.

They cannot believe their luck when they meet a stranger on the beach who grants each one a wish with one condition. One by one they wish but their wishes are not being granted. Will they realise what the right wish is before they run out of wishes or will they go home empty handed? Will they even go home at all?

This story highlights the importance of helping others and being considerate to the needs of others. Sometimes we have to put our own needs aside in order to help others before we can have what we want.

"The Junglies' books all have a theme of "unity in diversity" in them with the characters being represented by different animals who are friends.

The series also serves as a good basis for teaching children about endangered species as each species of animal representing a character in the books has at least one sub-species that is endangered including rabbits!

Jungle Man the game warden represents man's ideal relationship with nature which should be one of protecting, nurturing and guiding.

"The Junglies" are enjoyable books for young readers and while being aligned towards ages 5 - 8 years old, they make ideal reading literature for parents to spend time reading to their younger children too.

Pages 4 & 5

After the excitement of the train ride, the friends were happy to be at the beach.

Jungle Man said they needed to fix the train first so they could get home later but the friends just wanted to have fun on the beach.

Pages 6 & 7

They took the beach umbrella, beach ball and other things for the beach and ran off over the dunes to the sea leaving Jungle Man to fix the train alone.

Pages 8 & 9

They helped to put sunscreen on each other and were soon building sandcastles and playing volleyball.

Pages 10 & 11

Then they heard someone crying. They stopped playing and listened. The crying was coming from the sea. They saw a girl swimming closer to the beach. “Help! Please help me!” she cried.

The friends all went to the edge of the water and waited as the girl swam closer until she landed on the beach.

Pages 12 & 13

They all gasped in surprise. She was a mermaid!
