MOTHER TONGUE:  ENGLISH                             LENGUA MATERNA:  INGLÉS

NATIVE LANGUAGE:  SPANISH                           IDIOMA NATIVO:  ESPAÑOL

I am interested in translating works of literary value in the fields of poetry, fiction, history, and science. I will only undertake to translate works which I admire.

I was a Translation Fellow of the National Endowment for the Arts, for 2015. I have published several volumes of poetry in translation.

I grew up in Mexico City, in an international and polyglot family of Spanish, Mexican Indian, and English descent (mostly). I consider mother tongue to be English, and my native language Spanish, since I learnt to speak both at the same time, and also to read and write them.

I earned my bachelor’s and master's degrees from the National University of Mexico, and a PhD in mathematics from Rutgers University. I have published several mathematical papers under the name of “E. Rodríguez-Carrington,” poetry and fiction as “Enriqueta Carrington.” I have taught mathematics for many years, in several universities, including the National University of Mexico, the University of California at Berkeley, and Rutgers University.

SOME BOOKS OF POETRY BY THIS TRANSLATOR:

“Treasury of Mexican Love Poems, Quotations & Proverbs,” (edited and translated by Enriqueta Carrington, Hippocrene Books, Treasury of Love series, NY 2003)

“Samandar, libro de viajes / Book of Travels,” by Lourdes Vázquez (Editorial Tsé-tsé, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2007),

“She Was So Naked,” by Lourdes Vázquez (Premonition Press, USA 2015).

“Sonnets and autobiographical prose of Juana Inés de la Cruz,” (work in process, supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, USA).

SOME POEMS IN TRANSLATION:

Three sonnets of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (translated from Spanish) in The New Formalist (online), Nov. 2010,

Three sonnets of Giacomo da Lentini (translated from the Sicilian) in “Descant 154: Sicily, Land of Forgotten Dreams,” (published with the aid of the Canada Council of the Arts).

Best traslators as ever, team Carrington is very professional, fast, accurately and best of all, they are very puntual sending out your doc. time before it's overdue. Also they are very sensitive to feel your manuscript, and manage it as if would be an important and valuable master piece, so this help us authors very much when refering to our lyrical voice wouldn't be changed or flat.
