Mel looked at the long line of carts containing supplies that followed her and beyond that to the huge flock of sheep.  Dogs flanked both sides of this valuable flock and men were posted at points.  Next to her, her wife rode her own horse, no longer riding side saddle as she had learned to ride astride.  Alinta found that gripping the horse’s sides was easier than maintaining her balance on the side saddle she had previously ridden.  In her arms was their small daughter, only a month or so old and thriving as she slept in the clever wrap that Alinta had rigged to hold the baby to her as she rode.  This setup allowed the new mother to breastfeed when needed and kept the baby safe in her arms while also freeing her hands to hold the reins on the horse she rode.  Mel was so proud of her little family.  She saw the domed hills ahead and stopped at the top of one they chose to climb, taking a moment to survey the rolling hills beyond these, where she had claimed her station.  She saw the path the sheep had taken just a week ago, mowing the grasses as they were herded to Twin Station for shearing.  Now, they were returning to Lawrence Station.  Mel was proud that she had given the station her name and delighted that her wife and her daughter were returning to it at her side.
