Mama thinks I'm a good Christian girl, and why shouldn't she? I go to church every Sunday. I wear white, knee-length dresses. Hell, I bake brownies for my class every Christmas. I don't swear. Well, alright, I sometimes swear, but only when no one else is around. And I've never even let a guy get to second base--but that doesn't mean I don't dream about it. It doesn't mean I don't do things when only God is watching.

My grandma bought me a big bear for my thirteenth birthday. There's a picture of me opening the present. I didn't know what that bear would mean to me back then--in fact, I wouldn't know for several months--but I had the biggest smile on my face and immediately brought it to my chest and held it tight. My grandmother couldn't have been happier.

I wonder if she'd still be happy if she knew then how much that bear would mean to me in the coming years.

Over those years, I began to collect stuffed animals. No one ever wonders why I keep them all. In fact, they encourage this sweet obsession. Every holiday, my family buys me a new stuffed bear--ones with American flags on their stomachs for Independence Day, ones wearing red and green scarfs and hats for Christmas. My friends even give me little stuffed bear key chains for my birthday.

They think I like stuffed animals because I'm cute and innocent.

They couldn't be more wrong.
