They stood before a fortress of utter and complete darkness made of soaring buttresses and thin slivers of stone and steel, with walls of immeasurable height, dark as night, jutting skyward from the dead earth as the dual skies above them rained fire, silent and deadly, arcing from the heavens to the ashy ground below.

They were back in Absentia.

Puck and Sebastian were beside her, along with Apothic. Puck, dressed as a satyr again, put the ivory horn to his lips and blasted a thunderous roar as if in victory.  The echo of it reminded her of what it was like when you stare too long at the sun. The horn’s roar left an afterimage in her head that would not let go.

It seemed to overlay the world.
