Heir of Nostalgia by S.M. Muse

Heir of Nostalgia chronicles the trials and tribulations of a young man in search of his family, his country as well as his place in the world.

Heir of nostalgia

It begins with a boy searching for his father, a father missing these last two and a half years.  It continues with a man living his life one day at a time about to marry his best friend and the love of his life.  Somewhere along the line the two meet, this boy and this man; what they discover about each other, and who they really are, will change everything.

Meanwhile, forces are gathering, marshaling their strength as agents creep the streets of modern day New York in search of royalty- royalty banished some 400 years prior –to put an end to their royal line once and for all.

Darkness is on the move, and with the royal line gone, nothing can stop them from reaching their goal, the eradication of an entire nation gone these last 350 years.

Portents light the night sky, the Royal Bay has begun to shed its leaves foretelling doom and the death of a King.

Can a fallen angel, a thirteen year old man/child, and an exiled King with no memory of who he is or was, hold off the terrible forces about to be unleashed upon an unsuspecting world?

Only time will tell.

An Excerpt from Heir of Nostalgia:

"A dark mastiff," whispered Maggie, keeping the beast in sight the entire time. "In packs they are unstoppable. By themselves, however... We used to hunt them for sport," she said.

At this point Phillip jumped in, "Surely you can do something. Look what you did with Feathers."

"Mastiff and corbie, Phillip, two completely different creatures. Mastiffs are drawn from shadow and shade, sharp corners and angles. Corbie on the other hand." She was about to say something more when the wolf lunged.
With one arm Maggie swept Theo and Phillip to one side, while striking out with her 'stick.' As soon as the 'tree branch' struck the great wolf it snapped in two and burst into flame and cinders. Steaming blood the color of night, the beast snapped wildly at them and withdrew.

Fresh scarlet ran like a tear down Maggie's right cheek. She'd been quick, but the wolf had been quicker.

"Maggie!" Phillip cried, seeing the ragged gash across her forearm.

Reviews:

A new talent, states E. Finlayson of Staffordshire, UK. This book can be considered equally as a young adult book or an adult book. The plot is out of the usual and the writer builds both tension and atmosphere skillfully. Like other reviewers I could hardly put it down until it was finished, and I hope very much for a Book 2.

AMAZING! Says Ron You feel like your right there beside the characters throughout their whole journey. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone ready for an adventure. There were times while reading this book that my heart would be beating faster. Can't wait for the next book in the series! HIGHLY recommend this book!

Nostalgia…

Just as quickly he was back, the sidewalks around him filling back in, ghostly grey at first, but then with all the colors, sights and sounds of the city.

“Damn,” he muttered, still rubbing his throat.  Nearly choked to death, his tongue seemed too big to fit in his mouth, the air around him achingly cold to breathe.

He did breath though, in and out… in and out.

As before, the darkened gloom of the alley behind him revealed nothing more than before.  Whoever his attacker might have been, he was already gone.

“Crazy old bastard,” for surely it had been the old man that attacked him.  After all, who else…?  With effort he cleared his throat, hawked and spit.

Making his way off the sidewalk, he entered a trash-strewn and graffiti-marked stairwell, knelt down and quickly removed his shoe.

The coin he retrieved from beneath his sole, was thick and unnaturally heavy.  On one side was the image of a burning shield; on the other- an image he knew without even looking –the crowned head of an Eerie falcon.  Together in years, the coin and boy were far older than the city they were currently in, by hundreds of years.

Comforted that his secret remained hidden, he returned the coin to its hiding place.  Back on his feet he took a good look around.

The city had grown considerably colder, or so it seemed at the moment.  Wiping tears from his eyes, and saying a quick prayer, he turned to glare out at a world gone by.

This place, this city, meant nothing to him, it was just a place he had to be- for how long, however, he didn’t know.  He only knew he couldn’t stay here much longer- things had grown too dangerous.  Somehow, someway, the enemy had found him, figured out where and when he had gone.

Author review:
Laura has been amazing to work with. Translation was spot on. She even went so far as to make some suggestions in regards 'American slang', and how it could be communicated internationally. Constant communication, quick response...all in a very timely fashion. I highly recommend her ability and skills as a translator. I hope to work with her in the future on other projects.
