“Why didn’t you let Sevrolt kill me?”
No answer. She hadn’t really expected one.
His arm was hard beneath her breasts. His thighs like banded steel against hers.
Her imagination began to recall the fever dreams of him, and she suddenly felt her heart begin to beat faster.
She could not see his face, but she could remember the look in his eyes as he’d held her in her dreams. Remember the heat of his body against hers.
His arm tightened more firmly around her, and for a moment she could hardly breathe as her hand rose to press against it in protest.
“If you try to escape, and Yvar does not bash your head in with a hoof by mistake, have no fear that I will kill you myself. I am in no mood to chase you about in the darkness.”
She stiffened at his words before she realized that he must have felt her heartbeat speed up and mistaken the meaning.
With a shiver she wondered what he would have said if he’d known the truth.
“You might be a wolf in human flesh, but I’m not afraid of you. The old woman told me that you needed me alive.”
“She lied.”
