My Dragon Is Scared! 12 Stories to Solve Problems by Katrina Kahler

Perfect for Early Readers or to Read With Your Child at Bedtime - This is a fabulous book to read with young children to teach them many life skills and lessons. It is filled with lovely stories that children can relate to and learn from.

My dragon is scared! 12 stories to solve problems

These 12 Short Stories explore the fears that many young children experience. The stories focus on Dan the Dragon, so that you and your child can read about his fears and how he overcame them.

The little boy in the story often doesn’t admit he is scared or that he has made a mistake, instead he blames the dragon.

I have written the stories from this point of view because sometimes when parents try to help their child to overcome problems, the child is too close to the situation and cannot rationally identify and solve the problem. This slightly disconnected action where the dragon has the problem…allows young children to focus on solving that problem.

The Stories include:
“Where’s My Mommy?”
A New Baby Brother
My Friend the Dragon Throws Tantrums
My Friend the Dragon is Scared of the Dark
My Friend the Dragon has a Messy Room
“It’s Not My Fault!”
My Friend the Dragon Says Bad Words
My Friend the Dragon Won’t Eat That!
My Friend the Dragon has Accidents
My Friend the Dragon is Very Shy
My Friend the Dragon Meets a Bully
My Friend the Dragon Has Bad Dreams

This book can later be used as an early reading book for your child to practice their reading skills. At the end of the book there is a Bonus Section for parents on Strategies for Solving Toddler Fears.

Sample text:

“Where’s My Mommy?”

My friend Danny is a really friendly dragon,

Sometimes, we ride around in my red wagon.

He loves to sit and play with me.

He’s my best friend, you will see!

But when it’s time for Mommy to go out.

I hear Danny cry and shout.

“Where are you going, Mommy dear?

I need you to stay with me, right here!”

“I’ll be back soon,” she replies.

“Please don’t leave me!” Danny cries and cries.

“Will she come back?" he thinks with fear.

Danny needs to have her very near.

“You don’t have to worry,” says Grandma.

“Mommy will be back soon, she hasn’t gone far.

You’re very, very safe here with me,

We’ll have fun today, you will see!”

It’s always the same when mommy leaves him.

Even when he’s at kindy, with his teacher Kim.

After Mommy goes, Danny curls into a ball,

“Mommy, Mommy,” Danny the dragon calls.

But Danny doesn’t worry about Mommy

Leaving him anymore.

Because she gives him a cuddle

Before she walks out the door.

He is no longer scared and this definitely shows.

Mommy says, “I’ll be back soon,” then off she goes.

Danny plays with Grandma and his dog, Jack.

He has lots of fun until Mommy comes back.
