Your message in the capable hands of a communicative multifaceted translator

Yussef chaib abderrahman

Dear reader of this brief biography,

My name is Yussef Chaib and I am from a Spanish border city, Melilla, so I guess my interest for the field of multilanguage communication is a mark of it. I studied my first two years of English Studies and Translation in the University of Granada and before I completed it in the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2012, I fruitfully enjoyed stays in Dublin and Tangier, Morocco, in the context of different exchange programmes.

As a translator, I worked for Applus+ Laboratories, located in the campus, for a year and a half and my job there consisted of translating technical texts, most of them related to industrial safety and International Standards. Thanks to this job, I improved my translator mechanichs and enlarged my skill set.  After that experience, I translated into Spanish some self-selected anthologies of the iraqi poet Adib Kamal Ad-Deen, but I was unsuccesful to find a publisher for them, so far.

I have also worked in the field of audio-visual translation and translated a bunch of docummentaries and short films, such as "I am gay and Muslim " (2012) and "The Turkish Boat" (2013), "Luciano" (2013).From that time, I got to collaborate with some free subtitling websites, such as tusubtitulo.com.

Since 2014, I have worked for a local newspaper, "El Enfoque" and some minor online newspapers as a freelance translator and proofreader.  Th

In addition to the the titles I have translated through Babelcube, I occasionally collaborate with Internationational Translation Agencies, such as Translated, Polingua and Linguo24.

As a translator, I have always favoured more communicative approaches in my translations, and that is because I believe that message is the essence of any texts, as concepts are the essence of sentences and words; forms and expressions are there just to give us a more detailed view of ideas, so in my expierence, focusing on the essence of the text helps  to understand the author's intentions and cultural context and all together is key in order to provide high-quality, not just intelligible, translations.
