Guilherme Machado Meira (translator)

"Translators end up fixated on what hasn't been said." This phrase, casually uttered at a translators' symposium here in Brazil, stuck with me like none other.

Guilherme machado meira

I was born in 1992 in northeastern Brazil and my family has been moving around since forever. We lived in France for a year when I was ten, and I do believe that was when my passion for language and translation started.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Foreign Languages and have participated in several translation projects across my higher education, doing poetry and prose translations as well as videogame and webcomic localizations. I also have a long experience with subtitle translations, often doing freelance work for Netflix, Prime Video and other such streaming services.

I am native speaker of Brazilian Portugues, with a C2 English Proficiency Certificate.

Translating meaning, rather than words, is the most important to me (and I believe should be to all translators), as that is what truly conveys emotion and intention in narrative and poetic texts.
