Officially, I am trained as a technical translator for the language combination French-Dutch (at the Maastricht Translation Academy in The Netherlands). In reality, I have never translated anything from French to Dutch, nor do I have any experience in technical translation.
However, I do have experience in translating English novels to Dutch: for years I have translated English romance books by Mills & Boon for the Dutch market, through Harlequin Holland (part of HarperCollins Publishers).
After a couple of years I have shifted the emphasis of my work somewhat from translation work to editorial work (for publishers of English and Dutch books and journals). That way - and also by reading lots of English novels and non fiction books - I have been able to keep my knowledge of English up to date.
