A multicultural upbringing and a vivid passion for literature made me the person I am and the translator I want to be

Andree celeste brentini

In high school I met the one teacher who changed the way I used to view languages. She was so passionate about teaching, and I was very much into learning. Bingo! English started taking a new shape in my eyes, and so did German, French and Spanish. At university I decided to pursue Translation and Liaison interpreting studies, combining Italian, English and Chinese. This latter and I did not really get on well, to be honest. But English... A whole other story. I spent as much time as I could abroad. I practice every day. Most of what I watch, I watch it in English. Articles and books: strictly in English. I use it on a daily basis for work (I'm a content writer). I have also attended a professional workshop, "Traduzione Letteraria", at Langue & Parole in Milan. It was very compelling and tough, at times, but I got the chance to take a few classes with Monica and Silvia Pareschi, two of the most extraordinary Italian translators on the market as of today.

Becoming a literary translator in Italy is basically impossible but I have never stopped dreaming about it. Of course I had to reinvent myself: I need to eat and survive, you know? Truth is, I feel ready to take on this adventure right now. And I hope this is the right way to give it a try.
