“Hello, my name is Sarah Deming,” began Sarah as soon as the operator came on.  “I’ve called several times today…yes…yes…That’s correct but I’m…yes…yes, they are still after us and we just saw them at the hospital and I think they took my friend, Michelle and…the McHue Memorial Hospital…no…no, we are at the mall up the road from there…”

Sarah motioned to the woman for the name of the mall as the operator probed for her location.

“Fifth Avenue Mall,” the woman responded.

“We’re at Fifth Avenue Mall,” repeated Sarah, “Yes…my friend and I…yes, her name is…yes…please…okay, yes…please send a team now….yes, thank you.  Her name is Michelle…”

She covered the receiver with one hand and turned to Alexis.

“What’s Michelle’s last name?” she asked.

“Feldman,” replied Alexis, “F-E-L-D-M-A-N.”

Sarah spelt back the name to the operator before repeating where she had been taken from, and imploring that a police team be sent as quickly as possible.

After ending the call, Sarah gave the phone back to the woman behind the counter who still looked mortified.

“I’m…I’m really sorry about what I said earlier,” she said, her eyes struggling to make contact with Sarah’s.  “It’s just that we get all kinds of people coming in here and some of them are just plain pranksters looking to pull a fast one on anyone they think is soft or gullible.”

“It’s okay, I understand,” replied Sarah.
