The question, “Am I saved?” is one few people want to ask out loud. Why? Because a) asking is evidence they aren’t sure b) they think asking denotes weakness or a lack of faith or c) they don’t want to know or think about it. No matter what the reason, the fact remains that it is a question you need to ask and get the answer to. Where you spend eternity depends upon it.

Fifty days after Jesus was raised from the dead, Peter and the other disciples were in Jerusalem for the day of Pentecost—the Jewish celebration commemorating the event of God giving the Law to Moses. But the day of Pentecost celebrated after Jesus’ death, resurrection, and ascent (return) to heaven, the celebration also became the day the church as God intended it to be following Jesus’ ministry was ‘born’.

Peter and the disciples were in the throngs of people at the temple in Jerusalem to celebrate Pentecost. Because they came from different countries and cultures, a variety of languages and dialects were spoken by these people. Led by the Holy Spirit, the disciples began speaking to the people in their own language. God temporarily gave them this ability so that they could hear and understand the message he (God) wanted the disciples to share with as many people as possible that day.

Peter didn’t mince any words as he spoke. After all, many of the people he was talking to were the same people who had stood before Pilot demanding Jesus be crucified. His sermon can be found in the second chapter of Acts (Acts 2:14-41). The message was heard and received by thousands. Or as they Bible says, they were “cut to the heart” and wanted to know what they could do to be saved
