The Ripper by L.A. Maldonado

Modern Jack The Ripper Story

The ripper

When a Jack the Ripper copycat killer murders a waitress in Whitechapel, a tabloid newspaper hires private detective Matthew Reid, descendant of the detective on the original case, as a publicity stunt to sell newspapers. Meanwhile, when Reid’s daughter Chelsea, a survivor of a vicious attacker who butchered her face, learns that a killer is stalking a group of Ripperologists at a writer’s convention in Florida, Reid’s investigation becomes much more than he bargained for. With the help of the ghosts of the original five victims of the Ripper, Chelsea discovers that a sadistic entity believes itself to be the ghost of the Jack the Ripper, and when the entity starts hopping bodies, the streets of Fort Lauderdale run red with blood.

The phone rang just as the teapot began to whistle. It was very late, and Ann’s day at work had been difficult. She picked up the cordless, but first had to take the screaming kettle off the burner so she could hear the voice through the receiver.

“The Ripper is coming for you. He’s watching the house.”

“Beg your pardon? Did you just say the Ripper is coming for me?” Ann asked incredulously with a sharp laugh, having a little trouble understanding the voice. “Are you an American?”

The woman on the receiver sounded strange, as if she had trouble articulating her words, but the accent definitely sounded American. Ann had to deal with weird tourists and obnoxious Jack the Ripper fans all day at her job.
