Meaning of Dementia:  Dementia is the most common term used to describe a decline in mental ability strong enough to interfere with daily life. Example of such is memory loss. The most common type of dementia is Alzheimer – to be discussed later in our study.

One thing to note here is that Dementia is not specifically a disease. It’s a term that is widely used to describe various symptoms that is associated with a decline in memory (or other activities that involves thinking which is severe enough to reduce someone’s performance while doing the day’s activities. Before we go further, Alzheimer’s disease accounts for about 60.1 – 80% of cases. While the second most common type of dementia is vascular dementia – which normally occurs after a stroke.

Though, there are many other conditions that can because of symptoms related to dementia including some that could be irreversible, such as thyroid problems and deficiencies in the vitamin.

Dementia is often incorrectly believed to a serious mental decline been a normal part of aging – senile dementia.
