Stryper: loud n' clear

This book chronicles the entire history of this legendary Christian metal band. From the members' childhoods, the Roxx Regime era, the radio and MTV success, and packed arenas, through their triumphant reunion tours and recordings, it covers just about everything there is to know about Stryper - not just the fluff. Such questions as, "How did Stryper evolve?" and "What really happened during the Against the Law time period?" are all answered here. The answers, derived from countless hours of interviews, come directly from the band members themselves and many others.

"Hearing this audio book somehow brings up the excitement level of these
stories, as they come alive and bring the listener to the edge of their seat."
- Doug Van Pelt, Heaven's Metal

"I was blown away... it had me moment by moment."
- Ken Metcalf, former Stryper keyboardist

Sample text:

Stryper are the most talked about band in the history of Christian music.  They took Christian music to new heights, and have been called Christian music’s supergroup.  Ask your average music fan about Stryper, and they will say, “Oh yeah, the Christian band.”

Yet although they are Christians, in a way they never were a Christian band.  A Christian band did not garner the kind of success that Stryper had.  They sold over eight million albums and still counting; they grossed over $100 million, and graced the cover of nearly every rock and metal magazine of the 1980s; they stormed the radio airwaves and took over MTV’s top 10 most requested videos.  They completed four world tours, and sold out many rock venues around the world.  Yes, Stryper made history.  But the term “Christian band” means groups signed to Christian record companies and selling almost exclusively to a Christian audience, while 85% of Stryper’s audience was secular, or non-Christian.  Stryper set the standard for success that most “Christian” bands strive for.  There have been successful Christian bands such as Jars of Clay, DC Talk and POD, and individual Christian artists like Amy Grant and Michael W. Smith; but no Christian artist or group grabbed the attention of the world like Stryper did.

Secular bands like Creed and Collective Soul have had enormous success with Christian-style lyrics.  Stryper was different.  But why were they different from every other Christian band?  Why did religious groups picket their concerts instead of supporting them as they do for Christian bands in 2001?  The answer is simple: Stryper was chosen by God to be the catalyst for the explosion of Christian music.
