Sample text:

This story dates back to 1935. There was once an orphanage in London. Many kids, small and big, ran around shouting and playing. The owner of the orphanage, Mrs. Dearson, was very strict and cruel.

She didn’t like the children but had to take care of them. Many people donated food, money, and toys to the orphanage.

One of the kids from the orphanage was Arien, an 11-year-old girl who didn’t have many friends. Her only friend was Nancy. Nancy and Arien played together all day.

One night Nancy was feeling thirsty so she walked down to the kitchen and had a glass of water. When she was coming back upstairs, she heard some noises coming from Mrs. Dearson’s office.

She was talking to someone about something and kept giggling once in a while.

Nancy could not stop her heart from wondering what Mrs. Dearson was doing that late. But remembering her manners, she quietly walked upstairs to her and Arien’s room.

She could not sleep thinking about the noise.

The next morning came, and Arien shouted playfully to her friend, “Let’s go and tease the watchman. Or we can also go and hide Cracy’s doll.”

“Well, I have something different on my mind, Ari.”

“Yeah?”, Arien said, becoming serious.

Nancy told Arien everything about last night.

“Does she do that every night? It’s not the least bit like Mrs. Dearson.” Arien said.

“Yeah. Usually, she goes to sleep even before us kids.” Nancy remarked.

“It must be something interesting. Hey Nancy, let us go downstairs tonight to see everything ourselves.” Arien exclaimed.

“No way! Maybe Mrs. Dearson was just talking about her finance work or something. It’s not our business.” Nancy said.
