Sample text:

Elin opened the passenger door and got out of the car. Lars had found a parking space right in front of the building. The drive from Stockholm had gone quickly; they’d made it to Göteborg in just under five hours.

They went to the building’s entrance, which was a few steps down, below street level. Elin scrutinized the 18 intercom buttons and the names next to them. There were no names for three of them, and Elin checked the remaining names against the list of residents that she’d printed out.

“Unfortunately, there’s no name here that isn’t on the list.”

Lars nodded. “I’d figured that’s what we’d find. Natalia probably isn’t all that interested in having visitors. I think we’d be better off looking at the mailboxes.”

“Yeah, but to do that we need to get into the building.”

“So I guess we should either ring all the bells, or else wait until someone enters or leaves.”

Elin checked the time on her phone; it was just after 3. “Well I guess at this time of day we won’t have to wait all that long until someone comes in or out, don’t you think?”

“Yeah but it’s not a very good idea for us to hang around the door to the building. Too noticeable.” Lars looked up and down the street. “There’s a small pizza place down there on the left, why don’t we just mosey on over there and have a cup of coffee.”

Elin looked at the place – the small restaurant was only a few doors down. All of the buildings were set back from the street the same amount below street level, but there was a small wall and a small recess between each of the entrances.
