Sample text:

The flames roared higher and higher as the fire gained momentum. I could feel the scorching heat from where I stood in my spot in the middle of the road. Overwhelmed with shock, I was powerless to move. Surely the image in front of me could not be real. I would wake at any moment from a terrifying nightmare, and realize with immense relief that it had simply been a terrible, terrible dream. But then, the sound of sirens blazing in the distance and the shouts from Mr. Jansen as he ran frantically towards the burning building, jolted me from my reverie. With my feet taking on a mind of their own, I followed behind him, all thoughts for my own safety non-existent right then. My friends were inside and they needed help! Mr. Jansen pushed on the front door, but it wouldn’t budge. He shoved his entire body weight against it but still it stayed firmly closed. Yelling at me to stay back, he kicked with all his might and forced the door to swing open. Smoke poured from the open doorway and I could see flames licking at the walls and floors towards the rear of the room. Yelling at me once more to get right back, Mr. Jansen disappeared into the heavy smoke-laden interior where I quickly lost sight of him. My heart continued to pound in my chest. The wailing sounds of sirens were getting closer but I could not stand there and wait. I was too anxious, too impatient for help to arrive to simply do nothing. And without another moment’s thought, I rushed through the doorway. The building was filled with so much smoke that it was hard to see and difficult to breathe. Mr. Jansen had headed towards the back of the building. That was the spot where we’d left everyone and it was a logical place to start. It made sense to look there first. Hopefully they’d managed to escape out the back door, but for a reason I cannot explain, I could feel myself being drawn towards the stairs and the upper level.
