Sample text:

When Ky’s eyes met mine, my chest tightened, and a knot of anxiety clawed at my stomach. In the few seconds that I held his gaze, I saw both hurt and disappointment fill his features. He had watched every second of the kiss between Blake and me, but in reality, it had been Blake kissing me, not the other way around. There was a distinct difference between the two scenarios.

Ky was clueless to the dare, as well as my unwillingness to take part. His expression told me everything. And when Blake pulled me close and planted another possessive kiss on my cheek, Ky’s suspicions were confirmed.

I wanted to shrug away and ask Blake to leave me alone. Ky was the one for me. After seeing him at the mall, I’d made my decision, and nothing would change my mind. But laughter and loud music rang in my ears, and Blake clung to me tightly, unwilling to let go.

Instinctively, I knew he was threatened by Ky’s presence and was determined to assert himself. But shouldn’t I have a say in the matter? Shouldn’t I get to decide who I preferred to be with?

When Millie pushed past me, I stumbled forwards, and it was Blake who helped me regain my footing. I turned to her crossly, but her eyes were fixed on the group who had just arrived, in particular, the boy who I cared about most.

Millie’s friend, Jade, pulled a bottle of clear liquid from her bag and passed it to Millie.

“You’re the best!” Millie exclaimed as she threw her arms around Jade’s neck. She then proceeded to hug each of the others, a girl named Cassie, Cassie’s boyfriend, Mason, and last of all, Ky.

“So good to see you guys!” Millie gushed happily before turning back to everyone else. “Party time!” she giggled, holding up the bottle that Jade had given her.
