Sample text:

Johnny smiled up at Abby through the damp hair falling across his eyes. His hair was so long. She had meant to get it cut in England before they left. Why hadn’t she? Stupid question. Things had just run away from her after the funeral. When she thought about it, it was amazing they’d managed to get on a plane and come to Skiathos at all. But now, all she could focus on was what he was thrusting in her face.

They could almost have been cartoon bones but Abby had known as soon as she saw them. They were human thigh bones, a good foot long and not as squat as you would expect from a large mammal, like a horse or a cow. Thick and smooth and white. Clean.

“They’re mine. I’m keeping them.”

She shook her head.

“Yes,” he said. “They’re for my graveyard.”

Johnny had become obsessed with a card game over the past year, that involved monsters and graveyards. Abby’s mouth was dry.

"Where's Mark?" Abby heard Letitia's voice behind her. Mark was Letitia's husband.

"Yes, I told you to stay close to Mark," Abby said to Johnny, realising suddenly that he was alone. "Why didn't you do as I asked?"

"What are those?" Letitia's voice impelled  Abby to turn and face Letitia. "Are they ..." her voice trailed off. Abby caught her horrified expression and then Letitia rolled onto her knees and attempted to get up.

"It's OK," Abby said. "Don't worry. I'll go with Johnny and find Mark. I'll sort everything out. Just wait here."
