There are many bad habits that, if stopped, can make a really positive impact on your life. Smoking, drug-taking, alcohol abuse, and debt are generally the most obvious, but gambling, over-eating, yo-yo dieting, and even nail-biting and procrastination are further examples. Make no mistake, changing bad habits is not easy, but it is completely possible if you learn to understand what the triggers are and can get the right help.

We've all been there-angry with ourselves for overeating, for our lack of willpower, for failing at yet another diet that was supposed to be the last one. But the problem is not you, it's that dieting, with its emphasis on rules and regulations, has stopped you from listening to your body.Written by two prominent nutritionists, Intuitive Eating focuses on nurturing your body rather than starving it, encourages natural weight loss, and helps you find the weight you were meant to be.

When you expect to get results that will improve your life, then journaling is a crucial tool to achieve your goals. Sample text:

A habit is something that is done without thinking. Some habits are so ingrained that the person who has them does not notice the existence of the habit until another person points out that their behavior is not typical.

This means that it can be difficult to identify negative habits without engaging in some serious critical thinking about lifestyle choices. The following are examples of behaviors that could be (from a certain perspective) considered negative:

-              Excessive caffeine consumption - someone who complains they cannot sleep, but drinks coffee late at night could be considered to have a coffee habit.

-              Wasteful spending - buying expensive snacks from a vending machine at work when the same (non-perishable) snacks are half the price in the local supermarket.

-              Poor diet choices - someone who goes to the gym, then buys takeout that evening because they are too tired to cook is displaying a habitual behavior that could be thought of as counter-productive
