Sample text:

A man in the neighborhood of his sixties emerged and walked a few feet past the glowering soldiers. He wore a dark suit and pulled himself on a cane. He had a thick white beard and thinning hair.

“Paul Marrane,” he said. “That's what you call yourself these days, isn't it? Do you remember the name your parents gave you?”

Paul was stunned. He was a secret to anything that drew air. “Do you remember yours?” Paul said, audacity a habit. “Spell it so I can make sure they get it right on your headstone.”

The man chuckled. “My name is Lucas Glover. G-l-o-v-e-r.”

This had never happened to Paul before. He felt naked. Paul didn't recognize the apprehension that filled his belly at first. It'd been a long time since anything frightened him. But he'd be damned if this collection of snacks saw him sweat.

“Do you have any idea what I am, Lucas?”

“There’s a few names for what you are,” Lucas said. “Wendigo. Sanguisuge. Vampire. But I think eater is the most appropriate tag.”
