Eye behavior tells a lot. During communication with someone, pay attention to whether he or she looks away or makes a direct eye contact. Looking down or away indicates disinterest, boredom or even deceit, especially when they look aside or away. Looking down on the other hand indicates submissiveness or nervousness. You should also check for dilated pupils which do so automatically if someone is focused on you or something they like. Also, when people are thinking more or stressed, their blinking increases. Under some circumstances, increased blinking rate indicates lying, and is sometimes accompanied by touching the mouth and eyes. A desire for something is indicated by glancing at that thing and during a conversation, looking up and to the left indicates a truth has been told and there is confidence, while looking upwards and to the right suggests the person is telling a lie. Holding the head too high suggests aloofness or a patronizing attitude.

Gaze at the face

In as much as people may try to control their facial expressions, paying a closer attention may help you pick up on some nonverbal cues that may help you determine whether they are real or fake. Look at the mouth when tying to lie. You should also watch for the kind of smile one is trying to give because a fake smile only uses the mouth while a genuine smile engages the whole face.
