Bible study for women: guide and workbook

God has much to say to women in the words of the Bible. He outlines our roles in the home as daughters, wives, and mothers, as well as our roles as women in the church. The Bible is also filled with the stories of women whose lives and experiences are valuable lessons to us in how and why we should live faithfully and obediently. There are even a few examples of how not to live and the consequences we face for our disobedience.

Bible Study for Women not only reveals God’s intentions for women, but guides you through the process of taking a closer look at your own life; deciding how you can make God’s purpose for women more personal and relevant to your own life.

Whether you’re a man or a woman, the ultimate goal of our lives is to live in such a way that everything we say and do bring glory to God. Bible Study for Women will help you do just that.

The answer to the question this chapter’s title poses is, “Quite a bit, actually!” As we look at the following scriptures, open your heart and mind to what God calls women to be and do. After all, isn’t the ultimate goal of Christians supposed to be faithful obedience?

There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying. Coming up to them at that very moment, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were looking forward to the redemption of Jerusalem. ~Luke 2:36-38

Leaving the next day, we reached Caesarea and stayed at the house of Philip the evangelist, one of the Seven. He had four unmarried daughters who prophesied. ~Acts 21:8-9

Isn’t prophecy teaching? No, it’s not. The Bible makes clear distinction between the two. Prophecy is telling what will happen in the future. The Old Testament is filled with messages God sent through his faithful servants…his prophets.

Anna and Philip’s daughters weren’t teaching or assuming any form of leadership. Anna simply shared the truth with everyone within earshot that this baby was the Messiah. No specific details are given regarding Philip’s daughters, but most likely they spoke of the second coming of Christ.
