In Nazi Germany, she is recruited by Hitler's intelligence service, and in 1943 is sent back to Brazil as an agent of the Third Reich. Her mission: to infiltrate the largest American air base outside the United States – Parnamirim Field – used as a strategic waypoint for the transfer of allied planes to Europe. Using the code name “Celina Lobato”, she will need to pass herself off as a Brazilian war correspondent, ultimately to avoid suspicion or detection by either side!

Jürgen scanned the instruments of the control panel and manipulated the stick to adjust the speed to 125 miles per hour. Thus, it would have a reasonable rate of descent and clearance of 20 miles per hour for the stall for final landing, slightly easing the angle of impact.

—     Landing gear and flaps!

Leaning over the front of the center console, Günther, visibly baffled, muttering incomprehensible words to himself, flipped the larger switch and brought down the landing gear. Almost immediately, his trembling hand reached for the small lever on the right front end of the console and the flaps began to slowly extend, as indicated by the white dial hand positioned on the panel below the tachometers. He waited for the indicator on the panel and reported:

—     Landing gear lowered and locked! Flaps extended!

—     Landing lights.

The co-pilot turned the two landing light switches on in time to see the canopy of the trees closer than he wanted, coming up quickly and streaked by diagonal strokes drawn by the heavy rain that crossed the beams of the white lights projecting from the wings.

—     It's the Gates of Hell, Captain – he whispered, petrified, watching his whole life flash before his eyes.

Günther had not had time to cut the fuel or even to turn off the electrical system, and Kurt was unable to jump. The trees hit first.
