I am Haitian, a country where French and Creole are the two speaking languages. I went to elementary and secondary schools in Haiti and was taught primarily in French. I came in the U.S. to pursue my higher education. I spent a year and a half learning English (ESL to College English) before I could start taking different courses integral to my major.

I switched major twice because I  tried to follow the job market advantaging to an immigrant like me. I ended up taking classes for mass media, TV/Radio writing, and Philosophy as I initially wanted to be a journalist. Then I concentrated on accounting classes as I was working in a company's accounting department as a clerk. I ended up choosing accounting as my major in which to pursue a BS.

I am trying to use my French and Creole speaking background to work part-time at home after my boss, who tasked me with the special project of translating and speaking with the borrower of French background, told me that there were  firms looking for freelance translators like me. French translation jobs aren't frequent but I am pursuing until I get the pleasure to translate a book, I am an avid reader and write occasionally in both languages as hobbies.

I am a mom, and am teaching my daughter to speak French and Creole: she isn't interested, I make her read, speak, and translate some of her books in both languages as punishment whenever she misbehaves.

Getting to translate just one book would be a great achievement for me. I hope it becomes reality soon.
