“That’s right. Where are you ranked among the female tennis players in the world, my dear?”

“Second,” Joni groaned.

“And how will you get to number one?”

“Practice, practice, practice.”

Mrs. Wiggins smiled. Joni did too, but only one of their smiles was sincere. It was times likes these that she regretted choosing the life of a tennis pro. But then again, it often didn’t feel like a choice at all. Ever since she was old enough to hold a racket, she was put out there on the court while her proud parents beamed...
