The word to anoint in Hebrew (Masah) means to smear, consecrate. Like sort of some Holy Spirit presence or power enveloping, touching, incubating or brooding over, moving upon (Gen. 1:26), overshadowing (Acts 5:15) somebody or something to affect (cause change, influence) and effect (produce result).
