I am an energetic 53 year-old woman who loves translating! I am responsible, honest and reliable.

Rosa alderete

I was born in Paraguay, the heart of South America, 55 years ago!

I went to school in Paraguay, but in 1976, due to my father's occupation, we moved to Cochabamba, Bolivia. I went to school there for a year. It was quite an experience for a 12-year-old, since teachers would "question" me about the Chaco war between my country and theirs back in 1932. I didn't know much about that back then... all I knew was that the war was due to territory boundaries... but they would tell me that we "robbed" their land... So, that was something!!!

Once back to Paraguay, I wanted to study English so bad! Public schools have a poor English language teaching. At the age of 13, my parents sent me to a private institute in the afternoons, three hours a week, to learn English. After I had finished High School, I went to Norway. My family has friends there, so I lived with them for a year and went to school with my "Norwegian sister." It was a great experience, because I took mainly language classes, art and music. I learnt a lot of English there, because it was the only language I could communicate with.

After that year, 1983, I came back to Paraguay and decided to go to college. I went to the National University of Asuncion that offers a BA in English. I graduated in four years. Immediately, I applied for a "teacher’s exchange" through the British Embassy. In 1990 I went to Cardiff, Wales, to work as a "Language Assistant" in two High Schools and one "A Level" College. The students would mainly practice their oral Spanish with me, and that was a fantastic experience!

When my one year contract was up, I came back to my country and started my own translating/tutoring business. I really enjoy working with translations! I am a certified Public Translator by the Paraguayan Supreme Court of Justice.

One of my qualities is perfectionism when it comes to translating. My translation Professor always said that, it is not just translating word by word, but give it the meaning that the paragraph has, which is a gift, an art work. I believe I have the gift!

Another quality I possess is responsibility. Whenever I promise something, I am true to my promise!

I am currently  working as a tutor to students who attend bilingual schools. I am also a Spanish instructor for diplomats at the American Embassy of Asuncion. My dream is to become a full time translator!

I hope you find my experiences interesting!
