Rodrigo alvarez

My name is Rodrigo Alvarez. I’m Argentinian, and I’m 30 years old.

In 2005, I obtained my Certificate in Advanced English from the University of Cambridge.

In 2006, I started studying biology at the University of Buenos Aires. As most of the pertinent scientific work is written in English, my language skills were honed for years, also extending my vocabulary to that of scientific writing. For my graduate thesis, I published two articles in English (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22236711, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22179332).

From 2011 to 2016, I worked on my PhD in neuroscience. During that period, I attended many international congresses, read a lot of scientific literature in English, and worked on two new articles which are just about to be published.

By the end of 2015, I decided that I didn’t want to spend my life in a laboratory, and I developed a passion for writing fiction. I’ve always been a tireless reader, but since heeding my desire to write would have meant significant life changes, I never had the courage to do so until my decision to leave the lab coat on the rack. I started traveling abroad in 2016 to find inspiring environments for my writing, working on a fiction novel that I would love to publish in 2018.

During my travels, I interacted with many foreigners with whom English was the only way to communicate, augmenting my knowledge of the language further by adding colloquial and idiomatic aspects.

This job would be a great opportunity for me to be in touch with literature and learn from the choices of other amateur and not so amateur writers as I translate their work. I’m willing to dedicate time and focus to the translation to do the best job possible, as my future as a writer may depend on my performance.
