I comfortably state that I have two mother tongues English and Portuguese. Speaking I can go from one to the other in the middle of a sentence,

Raul adalberto de campos

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, son fo Brazilian diplomat i moved back and forth between Rio de Janeiro and New Orleans, Chicago and Baltimore. Consequently while my erarly education was in Brazil after returning from New Orleans, and Chicago, Junior High School (Middle School today) and Senior High School were attended in Towson, Maryland, a northern suburb of Baltimore.

In High School I completed the academic course and was accepted at Georgetown University and would have been a member of the Class of 1968, but I decided to return to Brazil and attend the the Catholic University in Rio de janeiro from where I graduated with a BA in Economics.

In the sports field as most brazilians I played Soccer in High School but suprisingly was more succesful playing baseball and reached Varsity level in both. Actually for one summer I palyed baseball semi-professionally.

After a brief period working for the brazilian public sector by public examination, I joined the International Bank for Recontruction and Development (World Bank) in Washington where I worked for 6 years as a Country Economist travelling extensively to Mexico, Haiti, Dominican Repiublic and Panama. During my stay in Washington I completed my MA degree in Economics atAmerican University and all my course work and Comprehensive Examinations for my PhD at George Washington University.

Upon returning to Brazil i joined the brazilian oil company Petrobras in late 1974 and off and on worked for that Group until 2007. During the period I lived once again for two years in New York and two years in London travelling extensively to Europe, the Middle and Far East, as well as the United States. I occupied a number of positions including Director of the commercial trading company, Executive Manager of Finance, of Project Finance and Investor Relations.

After retiring from Petrobras, i became CFO of the Synergy Group, a family holding company which has as its most noteworthy property Avianca, the colombian airline. It also owns two shipyards in Brazil, and produces oil in Ecuador, Colombia, and Brazil.

Put together I have had a broad experience both secor wise and geographically. Jokingly, and going against modern trends, throughout my carreer I have acquired less and less knowledge about more and more fields of interest and will probably end my life knowing absolutely nothing about everything. I have had contact with macro-economics, oil, corporate finance, accounting and finallyshipbuilding and airlines.

Geographically I have worked in the United States, Europe and South America.

Upon retirement from Synergy Group I decided to use my language abilities to translate considering mynative speaking abilities, broad vocabulary and general knowledge. I have already comleted an intenetcourse given by Nancy and Paola Staebelin. I have also joined the American Translators Association and plan on getting full certification for both English to Portugues and Portuguese to English.

My reading list is extensive. In High School read most of the american and english classics (Tom Sawyer, Hucleberry Finn, Grapes of Wrath, The Pearl, Catcher in the Rye, Rebecca, etc. and Paradise Lost, Regained, Canterbury Tales, Agatha Christie, and at least exerpts of some Shakespeare Macbeth, Julius Caesar among others), as well as some French in French (Le Petit Prince -obviously-. L'Etranger). Brazilian Literature again most outhors to varying extents: Machado de Assis, Graciliano Ramos, Gilberto Freyre, Jose de Alencar among others and more classic.

I also appreciate historical books and biographies: Churchill, the Kissinger Books (White House Years among others), Fidel Castro, and the books of Niall Ferguson and Tony Judt.

Author review:
Raul worked very hard on this translation to make it a smooth and a pleasurable read. He took particular care to get the English/Hindustani/Urdu terms into Portuguese just right. He met the work completion deadlines ahead of time and communicated well with the author throughout the project. Raul is highly recommended as a translator.

Raul worked very hard also on this translation, as he'd done for the Book-2 of the series, to make it a smooth and a pleasurable read. He again took particular care to get the English/Hindustani/Urdu terms into Portuguese just right. He met the work completion deadlines in good time and communicated well with the author throughout the project. Raul is highly recommended as a translator.
