English-Spanish Translator, Bilingual Agent, Majored in English Teaching

Omar garcia

My goal as an English-Spanish translator is to offer top-quality service by helping with comprehension and clear communication between Spanish-speaking people and the English-speaking world, with an ethical outlook.

I am a native Spanish speaker from Central Mexico and I majored in English Teaching in 2015 at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the biggest public institution of higher education in the country. From 2017 to 2018, I took a Diploma Certificate Course in Translation of Texts in English and Spanish in the School of High Studies (FES) Acatlan.

In 2017, I obtained the FCE (First Certificate in English) Certification, Grade A, Level C1, by Cambridge University, and the equivalent CENNI English Certificate, Level 12, by the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP). For over four years, I had the chance to advance my career as an English teacher giving lessons to students in High School at a couple of private institutions and at a local public university.

Since 2012, I had started the website creyentesintelectuales.blogspot.com and become the content creator, editor and translator of hundreds of texts, documents and biographical articles of historical figures who explored the relationship between science and religion, dealing with topics related to physics, biology, philosophy, history, sociology and faith. From many public and well-documented sources, I was able to translate and share firsthand excerpts and essays from unpublished translations into Spanish. One of these was the book "The Life Of Our Lord" by Charles Dickens available for free on that site.

My formal professional translation experience was at World Vision, where I translated hundreds of letters between countless children and their sponsors as part of an internship program, for a period of six months, from November 2015 to May 2016.

I also volunteered for the translation of subtitles in a couple of Danish Christian documentaries: "The Last Reformation: The Life" (2018), which I co-translated to Mexican Spanish, and "The Last Reformation: The Beginning" (2016), where I was in charge of both translating the Mexican version and proofreading the Latin American subtitles. Both of these films are available on Youtube.

Additional translation training to enhance my job skills include a number of courses such as "Introduction to Humanitarian Translation for the TWB Community" by Translation WIthout Borders, "Foundations of writing" (2021) by the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education", "First Applied Linguistics Colloquium: Language and Praxis of Language" (2014) by FES Acatlan, Reading Comprehension in French (2013) by CEI UNAM, an Advanced English Course (2013) I took at local university UPVM, and a Consolidation Plan of Computer Skills (2009) by EPOEM 99.

By mid-2021, I quit my nine-to-five job as a bilingual agent at a big telecommunications company to focus on expanding my career as a freelance translator. I'm particularly interested in books dealing with sociology, language, Christianity, spirituality, self-awareness, motivation, nutrition, health, healing and psychology.
