Good evening! Boa noite! Guten Abend!

Nicole cyron

Though my biography is vast, as I am already 43 years old, I will make it short; to give you an idea only. Later we may talk things over.

Next year I should attain the bachelor’s degree in translation. My languages are Portuguese, English, my mother tongue is German. Considering it interesting to experience the feeling of being at the right place with the right age I may try to earn a master’s degree quickly afterwards.

As an adolescent I could not wait to be older and to have already lived nearly everything life has to offer. I was everywhere in my thoughts and dreams. Many years I acted and from the age of 22 I travelled anxiously all over Southeast Asia, Australia and Japan; I was learning English accents that school had not taught me, talking to people without words, studying Hindi auto-didactically, ending these studies with a nervous breakdown, as my homemade pronunciation caused bewilderment, dreaming in a foreign language, stop dreaming because of the lack of words, dreaming in two or three languages, rediscovering my mother tongue and expanding it. Five years later I returned to Germany.

In 2000 I moved to Portugal. I started studying Portuguese immediately because I liked very much the sound of it. When I was 40 the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa opened its iron doors for me and I entered as a Portuguese student.

I never dreamt of becoming a translator. Now it makes sense.

As the grades for the 5th semester will only be received in January, I shall attach the grades of the last two years.

I will also attach a translation I elaborated for myself of Dalton Trevisan’s short story “João É uma Lésbica” in “Crimes de Paixão”, Rio de Janeiro: 2ª. Ed. Record, 1991. I like how he tries to reveal the speechlessness in conversation (which does not only hold true for the story I have chosen).

Love

Nicole
