Maria do carmo isabel alves camacho de andrade

I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. I lived there for the first four years of my life. I am presently living in Madeira island, Portugal.

My native language is Portuguese, but I speak English fluently, as I  have a degree in Modern Languages and Literature (Portuguese-English). I also have a good knowledge of French and a basic knowledge of German. I have translated legal documents and booklets mostly from English to Portuguese, but also from Spanish and French to Portuguese. I have also translated several documents from Portuguese to English.

I started working as an English teacher in 1993. In 1999 I interrupted my career as a teacher to pursue my goal of becoming a translator. I worked for Madeira Management Company in the position of Legal Assistant/Translator, from November 1999 to June 2004.

I see myself as a hard worker and able to cope with the workload efficiently and reliably.  My professional attitude and quiet disposition allows me a greater focus on the work in hand.  There is seriousness in everything I do.  Although somewhat reserved at first, I demonstrate an openness to change and I am definitely approachable and helpful to other people. I am particularly suited to working in a multicultural environment.

I believe my work, principally that of translation, is excellent, and I have successfully completed all projects that were assigned to me.

After this experience in the above mentioned company, I went back to teaching English for four years.

In 2009 I did a post-graduation course in Special Education (in the areas of cognition and motor disabilities). After finishing this course I continued teaching, but this time as a special education teacher and coordinator of the Special Education Department, a position I still hold today.

On a personal note, I would like to add that I love going to the movies, reading (particularly, but not limited to, science fiction) and hiking.

My goal in life is to work full time as a translator/writer as I consider it a very creative and challenging work.
