When I was 9 I traveled to another country for the first time. It was a very enlightening experience for I discovered the power of knowing another language. It's not only about words, sentences and grammar, it's about culture and habits and expressions. I decided that the best way to learn was through a practical approach, so instead of enrolling in an ESL course I bought the same book in Portuguese and English and read them simultaneously. The book was Jane Eyre. I fell in love with it, it widened my world for language is such a beautiful thing. I read the classics, Dickens, Austen, the Brontë sisters, Harding. At 13 I was the best English student in school and at 18 I was an English teacher. After that, my life took many turns and now I have a different job at a University. But my passion for the English language is still here. I perfected my knowledge by living in the US as an Au Pair and after that working as a tour guide in Orlando, FL. My interests vary greatly and I'm always up for learning something new. I studied biology, geography and history in college. I've worked with computers, customer service and finances. I love fantasy and escaping to another world. I've translated short stories, scientific articles, essays and subtitles. I would love translating stories because it's a way of helping them reach more people. I speak Portuguese and English fluently, but I also understand Spanish and some French and German.
