Born in 1975, Kuzhur Wilson, a native of Kuzhur village in Kerala, is one of the major voices of young generation Malayalam poetry. He started publishing poems from 1990 at the age of 15 and then continued to make his looming presence in the world of Malayalam poetry through online and offline periodicals. A very prolific writer, Wilson is the one who launched the first blog for poetry in Malayalam, one of the most read and discussed blog in Malayalam blogosphere. Wilson, who has spent a decade in the Gulf, has published six volumes of poetry and one collection of essays about life in the Middle East. He is the recipient of N.M Viyyoth Smaraka Kavitha puraskaram and Arabian Sahithya puraskaram. 'Kuzhur Vilsonte Kavithakal", his first collection by DC Books in 2012, got wide recognition and was selected as one of the Best Ten Books of the Year 2012 by India Today. His first collection of poems translated into English titled ‘Thintharoo’ was published in 2015. Kuzhur Wilson has recently bagged the Youth Icon Award for Literature 2016 instituted by the Kerala State Youth Mission.His works to be published in 2018 are the collection of poems titled ‘ Innu Njan Naale Nee Antappan’ and the English translation of his poems titled ‘ Letters to Violet.’

 

He has visited seven countries with his performance poeTree and that experience adds priceless inputs to his perspectives towards the world and life. The poetic life of Wilson gathers inputs for his creative life through traveling, reading and being a humble part of the universe. Wilson’s poems have been translated into English, German, Arabic and Tamil. The universality of his poems makes it easy for an outsider to step into this world of poetic exploration.

Apart from poetry, his interest also lies in paintings and installations. He has curated the collage work of Charlie Hold who is the Head of Fine Arts Department at Liverpool University, UK. He has collaborated with Norway based video artist Gittesatre and was the Indian producer for Norway based artists in the Cochin-Biennale 2014-15. In his 16 year career, he started as a journalist in print media and shifted jobs to work as radio journalist. For 8 years, he was one among the four leading radio news readers based in the UAE. He ended his overseas journalism career as Head of Channel 4 Radio Network’s Malayalam division. Wilson, these days, is busy taking on the role of one of the directors of the INNO ( Indo Norwegian Cultural Society) and is working on the Monsoon Poetry Festival to be held in, Kerala. He is also running the Temple of Poetry in Kuzhur  which is, as the name suggests, a temple of and for poetry.
