Habtamu shimels

I am Habtamu shimels assfaw from Ethiopia. I have bachelor degree in education from the best university in Ethiopia named Bahir Dar University from behavioral and educational Sciences faculty in pedagogical science and geography. I worked as a geography teacher. After then, I worked as an adult education expert, and planning expert in different public sectors. Now I am working as a planner in Industry and Investment department.

The other point is that I am learning electrical and computer engineering in wollo universty kombolcha technology institute. By the next two years, I will have a bachelor degree in Electrical and Computer engineering focusing on computer engineering. I have a plan to be a software engineer in the future. That is the reason why I am studying Electrical and Computer engineering.

I have two interesting hobbies in my life. The first one is reading and the other is translating books I get both interesting and valuable. I have been reading books which are written in English. Till today, I translated seven books from English to Amharic. Of them the first one is the book written by Shakti entitled creative visualization, the other is the go-giver and so on. But, due to financial problem I didn't publish any translated books. For the coming September, I have one book to be published. The book is under review now. After review, including the constructive comments, it will be published.

The reason why I am here is that I want do some freelance works to get the money to publish the rest of books I have translated. Beyond the money I have a reason to provide my fellows a book that has far reaching influence to transform their life. Reading is the means to entertain one’s life fully. To do so, interpretation of books written in English makes sense. Because, the majority of the people in Ethiopia can’t speak English unless it is translated, there is no access to read books written in English.

The finance to publish is generated from personal saving. And by now, a single book sized A5 and two hundred pages is sold about 150 – 200 ETB ($5-8). But, other books are sold beyond.

Let me say something about Ethiopia, my home country and Amharic my mother tongue. Ethiopia is located in east Africa having population of more than one hundred and ten million. There are 80 ethnic groups in Ethiopia i.e. there are also eighty languages that are being spoken by these eighty ethnic groups.

Ethiopia has different agro ecological zone. Many different kinds of cereals are cultivated in Ethiopia. The main food crop in Ethiopia is teff and the main cash crops are coffee and selit.

Amharic is the national working language in Ethiopia. So, books translated to Amharic have a market of more than half a million to the minimum. Amharic is spoken in wide range. The reason for this is Amharic is the widely spoken language in Ethiopia.

If get great books to translate, I will do it with in a month. I have good English command both in writing and speaking. My way of translation is not a kind of word by word rather I use dialectical translation. I mean I translated books in a way that it is in harmony with the socio – cultural environment of Ethiopians.

Free translation mainly focuses on the concept that the book is intended to transmit. So, I believe I have a good skill in translation.

In trial work you will answer your questions related to the quality. I ask everyone to work with me and enjoy the joy that comes from the quality of my service.

One thing to be noted is that I do not matter on the payment for the work done. What matters me is that providing the community with a quality work. All things come after quality work. I want to give my community a quality work that raises the awareness and way of life of the community.
