My life purpose: Helping people understand each other

Giulia de vivo

After my Secondary School Diploma in Classical Studies (Liceo Classico), I earned a degree in Foreign Languages from the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy of Salerno University in 1985 and worked for 13 years as an executive secretary for multinational companies.

In 1999, in order to devote more time to my family, I became a freelance translator and interpreter, and now chiefly work on book translation and editing. Over the last six years, I have gradually abandoned any work that was not related to the publishing business owing to my ethical principles, which make it impossible for me to accept the use of translation-memory-based software and related rules. Thanks to my mixed heritage (Italian, British and Czech) I am told that I excel in the area of interpersonal communication. The emphasis of my work has always been on helping people understand one another.

I have an inborn desire to research and experience the spiritual side of life. Over the 1994-1996 period I worked as a translator in events organised by the Spiritualist National Union in Stansted, UK, as well as in Italy, during which I got to know several hundred bereaved individuals, and developed a specific interest in grief and bereavement support. I have since devoted a substantial part of my free time to researching the subject and comforting the bereaved, irrespective of their cultural or religious backgrounds.

In my free time, I also enjoy painting.

My gradual switch to the publishing area, which started around 2010, is indeed also due to my desire to only offer my translation/editing services in the areas I am most interested in and knowledgeable about, such as spirituality, personal development and any topic aimed at empowering the reader. I have a special interest in anything related to mediumship, meditation, dreams, lucid dreaming, astral travelling, near death experiences, spiritually transformative experiences and the key notions at the root of the so-called “law of attraction”.

Working on book translation, ghost writing and editing has not only allowed me to specialise in the Italian editing field, but also to understand the great need to make sure that the Author’s message is carefully and accurately conveyed to the reader/recipient.

I became a referenced member of  ANITI (http://www.aniti.net/hp/) soon after I chose to work as a self-employed translator.

I only translate books from English into Italian.
