Meditation does not really require a lot of preparations.  The truth is that it is not extremely critical that you get ready for meditation using any particular sequence.  The tips and suggestions that you will read in this chapter are simply recommendations and definitely not rules.  You can actually sit in the train while going to work and meditate immediately.  But if you have extra time to prepare, it is ideal to perform the preparatory steps below so you can have a deeper meditation experience.

•       Do not eat at least one hour prior to meditation.  If you need to eat, ensure that you will only have a light meal.  Big meals before meditating can make you feel sleepy and weak.  You may also find it harder to sit still and undistracted.

•       You can also opt to take a bath or a shower prior to meditation.  Remember, this is not really necessary but the act of cleansing your physical body can be a part of your total cleansing ritual.  You will also feel refreshed that can create a positive mood and mindset which are ideal for deep meditation. 

•       Create a comfortable space.  It is ideal to wear comfortable clothes that will allow you to remain undistracted during the duration of your meditation.  Also ensure that the space where you will meditate is comfortable, clean and adequately warm.  You can place lighted candles or incense to create a more tranquil mood.  You can opt to play soothing music but make sure that the songs have no lyrics or words so they will not distract you during meditation.  It is also up to you if you want to dim the lights or not.
