Finally, after months of horrific abuse, Kim is free. She appears to be getting on with her life, much to the relief of her best friend and fellow hostage. But in truth, Kim is overwhelmed by rage. While Julie looks forward to a bright future with her rescuer, Kim is making lists and planning her own brand of justice.

Sample text:

Long ago, Kimberly Beyer had a plan. It was over a year since that happy day of her graduation. A turn of the tassel, a toss of the cap, and her entire future stretched before her like a happy, unending road. She had a job waiting, a fire in her belly that would point her towards success, and a dream of torrid love affairs along the way. Brian? Sure he was sweet. But he was a boy. She wanted men, many men, exploring every inch of her body. One day, someday, she even hoped for the fated true love, the one that could tame her spirit and tempt her to settle down. And someday, she might even take that chance and see if she could succeed where her mother had so horribly failed.

…many men, exploring every inch of her body…

She should have wished more carefully.

“Sweetie? Is everything okay?”

Looking up from the page on the pad, Kim held it fast in her sweating palms as she peered up into her mother’s eyes. Amanda tried to meet her daughter’s gaze with a patient stare. But the worry lines around her mouth seemed to expand with each passing second. A small part of Kim’s soul, the part of her that truly was buried in the forest in an unmarked grave, yearned to lower her head to Amanda’s waiting breast and feel her soft arms around her bare neck in the wake of her shorn locks. Amanda tentatively lifted her shaking arms, and Kim nearly accepted her mother’s embrace. It might be nice to be held with something like love after so many months trapped in arms of hate. If she was ever held at all. More often than not, Boone’s boys, and the likes of Geoffrey Troxel and Carter McCord before him, preferred to press her to the ground and touch her in other ways. Vile, unspeakable ways.
