Sample text:

A few years ago, I found myself on a flight back from Virginia, where I had facilitated a mastermind event for a client. An elderly gentleman was sitting next to me. Though casually dressed, he wore a Tommy Bahama shirt and a watch that looked suspiciously like a Rolex. After the plane took off, we introduced ourselves, and I asked him what he did for a living.

It turns out, James lived in my hometown and was retired, having built and operated one of the most famous dining establishments in that city. Eventually, he sold this business. I was surprised to find myself sitting next to one of the real movers and shakers of my city but one I had never seen in the news.

“What do you do?” James asked.

“Well,” I said, “ I am a #1 bestselling author, and I…”

“Wait.” James said, cutting me off. “Really?”

“Yes,” I said, “a few years ago, I wrote a book called The Video Tractor Beam, and it became a #1 bestseller on Amazon.”

The next words out of his mouth shocked me.

“You know, I don’t think I have ever met an author in person.”

I was surprised because I would have thought he would have met several authors before, sometime in his life. Here was a very affluent and connected individual, someone who was essentially a celebrity in a city of nearly half a million people. He was used to rubbing shoulders with the wealthiest and most accomplished people in town. And in all his years, in his various business dealings, social events, and travels, he had never once met an author.

That is, until he met me.

As you can imagine, the conversation that followed was transformed because of my status as an author. James did not see me as the average traveler or even the typical businessman. He saw me as an author and an expert.
