"What an awesome western romance book...from the beginning I was rooting for Jake and Clara against Edward Sinclair."

In "The Cowboy and the Rancher's Daughter," Clara Fuller inherits her father’s ranch and quickly learns being in charge is not going to be all that easy. Raised around cattle, she knows the business inside and out, but few men are willing to work for a lady rancher.

Once a drifter, Jake Talley has finally found a place to call home. As the foreman of the Fuller Ranch, he doesn’t mind taking orders from a woman. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to help Clara Fuller succeed.

Edward Sinclair is a successful ranch owner who wants more. He’s used to getting what he wants, and few have dared to try and stand in his way. One piece of property is all he needs to have complete control of the county. There’s only one problem; the land belongs to Clara Fuller. That’s all right; he’s never met a problem yet he couldn’t erase.

“That wind out there is really something tonight,” Jake said as he yanked the loose window shudder into place and secured the lock.

Since the cattle drive, he and Clara made a habit of spending their evenings together. After supper, they liked to sit out on the porch and watch the sunset, but a thunderstorm interrupted their plans. The sky was heavy with dark clouds, and the wind whipped the tree tops into a frenzy. “I guess I better head home before this really starts coming down.”

Lightning flashed and thunder rattled the house. Too late, he’d be drenched by the time he made the short trip to his cabin. He could try to wait it out, but by the look of it the storm was going to last most of the night if not all of it.

“There you two are,” Faith said as she stomped into the room. Her face was pale, and she wrung her hands together. “Do you mind if I join you? I never did care for storms.”

“Come on in, Faith.” Clara’s warm smile, meant to encourage the housekeeper, wasn’t lost on Jake. After moving over to make room for Faith on the couch, Clara turned her attention back to the window where Jake stood appraising his temporary fix. “It’s going to rain for hours. Why don’t you plan on staying here tonight? We can make you a pallet by the fireplace. There’s no sense in you getting soaked and catching pneumonia.”

“Well,” she started. “I suppose...”

“I insist,” she grinned and then raised her brow. “I am the boss, after all.”

“Clara,” Faith picked up a copy of the Sears Catalogue from the coffee table. “Look at this dress on the cover, it’s beautiful.”
