Sidekick by Jaime Castle, C.J. Valin

Raptors Book One

A superhero series which asks: What would happen if Peter Parker fought crime with Batman?

Sidekick

My name is Sawyer William Vincent - I know, it sounds like three first names - but most people know me as the Red Raptor.

Well, technically no one knows I'm the Red Raptor, he's just a bit more popular.

Wow. Enough about my name. Let me start over. I’m a superhero - the legendary Black Harrier’s partner. Not sidekick. I don't care if I'm still in high school. We work together to bring down the city's most dangerous villains.

When the Black Harrier gets a mysterious note, then goes missing in New York City, things are pretty much left up to me. But don’t worry...I’ve got this. Piece of cake.

If you like Tim Drake as Robin or ever wondered what Peter Parker would be like if he lived in Gotham, Rap-tors is right up your alley.

From number one Audible best seller Jaime Castle and CJ Valin comes a new superhero universe perfect for fans of both DC and Marvel.

Actually, it’s for fans of anything superhero-related. You’re gonna like it. Promise.

Superhero.

It actually sounds pretty stupid when you say it out loud. Is it one word or two? Hyphenated maybe? Not sure. Most of us masked crime fighters don’t use the term.

It also suggests someone has superpowers. Me, not so much. I have a really useful ability, but I wouldn’t call it a superpower. It’s kind of like an eidetic memory, only better. Most people would say it’s a photographic memory, but that’s wrong. I not only remember things, I can copy them. Perfectly.

Because of this, I can learn things really fast. Like martial arts skills.

Don’t get me wrong; I’ve trained hard. Really, really hard. Enough to be a black belt in a bunch of different disciplines. But I basically just have to watch a Jackie Chan or Bruce Lee movie—or, better yet, an MMA or UFC match—and I can mimic every move perfectly.

Right now, I’m out on my nightly patrol after having spent the afternoon watching my favorite parkour channel on YouTube. I swear, every week these guys come up with something I’ve never even thought of.

From up here, the city looks beautiful. Before you judge me, New York is way different from above than it is at street level. From the rooftops, leaping from building to building, it’s like the Fourth of July with all the lights. Call me weird, but I love the place. It’s my city.

Bleep.

Groan…

“Go ahead,” I say as I plant my hands on a low wall and dash vault to the building ten feet below.

“Sawyer, I’m receiving reports of some dirty boys three blocks north of your position.”

That’s Amber. She’s an artificial intelligence built into my helmet. And yes, she always talks like that. It’s really sort of off-putting if I’m honest.
