Facebook should be a no-brainer for us realtors.

We ain’t selling kitchen faucets or computer software or after-market car stereos.

Our whole vocation is ABOUT relationships.

We’re selling experience.

Knowledge.

The ability to handhold our clients through a difficult, stressful experience and get them to their ultimate (life-altering) objective of owning (or selling) property.

And a social network, like Facebook, with its multitude of eyeballs and numerous paths to “engagement” would seem perfect for us.

But how do we ACTUALLY, you know, SELL on Facebook?

Do we just create a Facebook page and put a status update that says: “I’m cool. Hire me. Now!”

Eh, not quite.

The problem is Facebook has some inherent marketing obstacles in its DNA that pose challenges for us:

●    Nobody likes to leave the Facebook platform. That link to your blog or landing page in the Facebook newsfeed may not get many clicks, if any at all.

●    There’s SO much crap in the newsfeed. It’s hard to get noticed; especially if you’re selling something.

●    People REALLY resent overt sales pitches on Facebook. Believe me, I’ve tried.

So, what do we do? Give up?

Quit our real estate gig and go back to school to get our teaching credential?

No, we simply USE Facebook as a hugely profitable (and sometimes cheap) lead-generation machine.
