Sample text:

When you go for a minimalist lifestyle you will reduce the clutter in your life, scale back on the amount of possessions you own and do a lot more with less. You will appreciate more the small number of things that remain, as opposed to owning tons of clutter you don’t really want or need.

Think of minimalism as removing the garnish that is unnecessary. Large companies have now adopted a minimalist approach to their UI design for apps and websites. Garnish and decoration has taken a back seat to functionality. If something doesn’t serve a useful purpose, then it doesn’t get included in the design.

Take a website for instance. How often have you visited sites that have a patterned background and/or unnecessary menus? What all the designers of these websites are doing is filling up the white space – but in reality less is more. A fine example of this is the Google home page.

Everything included in an app or website should provide some useful functionality- such as to navigate or guide a reader in a certain direction. Interactive features are welcomed, but garnish and other things that serve no purpose are not. It’s like eating bread but without the crust- all that remains is the ‘meat’/body of it. Trim the fat.

As you read on, you will discover you can apply these same minimalist rules to the décor of your home.
