The purpose of this workbook is to help you do just that. Your life is calling on you to make that choice, and the skills in this workbook can help you make it happen. You can live better, more fully, and more richly with or without anxiety and fear. This book will show you the way.

In this book, you’ll learn seven powerful skills that highlight the unique connection between mindfulness and emotion regulation. Each skill is designed to help you find focus in the present moment, reduce impulsive behavior, and increase a sense of connection to your true self, even during times of extreme stress or difficulty.

If you find yourself eating without thinking, because you feel bored or sad, or simply because you’ve had a hard day, indulging here and there is understandable. But emotional eating can often spiral out of control, leading to problems in the long run. The whole-body program in this book will help you learn how to listen to your body’s needs, so that you can stay healthy and happy, without giving up your love for food.

If you are ready to take action and change your life for the better, this book will definitely guide you in the right direction!

Many of us have heard of the untold power of the mind. Self-Help Gurus have expounded upon this for a very long time, claiming that if only we could harness our willpower and think positive and happy thoughts, everything in our lives would be perfect. Yet for most of us, as nice as all of this sounds; it’s just not that easy. Why is it so hard for some of us to just let go and think positive? Why does it seem easier for some than for others? Are some of us simply hardwired to be negative, glass half empty kind of people?

As abstract as some of these inquiries may seem, these are not just questions for philosophers. Actual academic research and science has been poured into these very questions to find an answer. And for those of you that feel as if you were just born wired to feel a certain way, scientists have found a bit of validation for that. In a recent research study, it has been shown that during the very first few seconds of our birth when we are screaming and crying at the bright lights and sounds of the hospital room, there is in fact quite a bit of stuff going on in that little brain of ours.

In the first moments of birth, our brain receives a steep drop in the “happy chemical” known as serotonin. It has been discovered that this is the apparent cue for the newborn infant’s brain to begin its “neuronal mapping”. In what scientists refer to as literally the “wiring” of the mind, it is in the first few instances of birth that a newborn child’s neuronal circuits,—which are the pathways that will later carry their very thoughts,— are made.
